REST IN BORDEAUX
It made a nice change on the morning of the 15th to be able to lie in for a bit, and not have to pack up all my gear and get back on the road. But I was up soon enough, and cycled into the city to get my bike looked at. The campsite reception recommended ‘Decathlon’ – a chain of shops best described as the French version of Halford’s.
The campsite in itself is OK, but it’s a bit too far outside Bordeaux to make for easy access, and the buses are a nightmare so I’m confined to some extent. I spent the rest of the day asleep in the sun, by the pool – which proved to be a bad idea, as I now have a ridiculous sunburn covering my entire torso – the part of my body usually obscured by my jersey when I’m on the bike.
The 16th has been spent hobbling around trying not to think about my burn! I went and picked my bike up – it’s running smoother that before, but only time will tell the strength of the repair on the wheel. It’s been nice to have a few days off but I’m looking forward to getting back on the bike and starting the next stage. I’m going to the airport tomorrow morning to meet the guys from the UK – can’t wait, it’ll be great to have some company.
